One School One Planet
One School One Planet is an Arwain funded project, who are working with the local school and community to tackle the challenge of climate change. We are supporting the community of Llanfyllin to design a better more ecologically sound future for itself in line with the Paris Climate Accord. Since 2016 we have been creating a template for change to be used in other schools across Powys, the UK and globally.

Llanfyllin High School
As part of this project, Steve Jones (Sector 39) and Dr Jack Hunter (a former Llanfyllin high school student) have spent two years teaching the very willing participants, Mr Emyr Jones and the Land based studies and Welsh baccalaureate students from Llanfyllin High School, the guiding principles of permaculture in the school classroom and out in the field.

Thursdays at Cae Bodfach
I (Angharad Rees) am a former Llanfyllin high school student myself and am currently working as education officer for One School One planet, this means I have had the pleasure of working with the high school students regularly on a Thursday at Cae Bodfach since September last year.

Come rain or shine
They have been in the field come rain or shine learning permaculture principles through practical land based skills, such as;
- Planting native trees as hedges and shelter belts
- Moving mulch and mulching under trees,
- Scything
- Coppicing and grading willow
- Putting up signage
- Surveying and mapping
And getting a bit of fresh air and having fun whilst they are in the great outdoor classroom.

Many (Boisterous) Hands Make Light Work
I feel compelled to say that when I have worked with the students in the field.. I look back at the end of the day, when the dust of the vibrant and youthful pandemonium has settled.. and I am always left very proud of what they have achieved, as the ancient proverb says ‘Many (Boisterous) Hands Make Light Work’.

Cae bodfach is a multifunctional community green space offering ecological, educational and recreational value. It acts as a fantastic educational resource, with the collaborative efforts of the high school students and community volunteers we are able to help maintain the site for the use of the public in a wildlife friendly way.
